Hey guys, you might of seen my other post about this in GFW.

Anyways, what all do i need to know for caring for these plants?

Lighting needs (I have seen anywhere from high to low light)

Will my clown loaches eat them?

Also the Anacharis I bought is just a stem, and it has no roots. Should i plant this now, or wait for it to grow roots?

If I want more, can i just cut a plant is half, then plant the top portion in the gravel again?

Also I keep my lights on for at least 13 hours a day, so will this burn out the hornwort?

Thanks for the help

Anachris: needs medium to high lights, but will grow also with low lights, it will just have a lighter green shade. You can plant it now or you can let it float, it will develop roots either way. You can cut the stem into two pieces and both of them will grow.

Hornwort: needs very low to very high lights. Doesn't have any roots but can be planted in the substrate. Can also be propagated by cutting a piece.

Don't know about the clown loaches though as I never had any.

If your clowns will ingest other plants (which they ost likely will-they are pretty notorious for chewing up new growth), they will definitely finish off your anacharis.

1. 2 watts per gallon
2. Highly unlikely, but hunger is a driving force
3. Now
4. Yes
5. Recommend 10-12 hrs/day

notes: both species do well, if not better, in coldwater tanks.

Thanks alot.

Do you guys have any websites that will explain how to take care of aqua plants, and maby a FAQ section?

I tried a google, but it didnt give me any good sites.

I have a feeling in gonna need to take the anacharis out of my dads tank, and just leave the hornwort in, since the tank gets only about 2 maby 3 (at the most) hours of tank light.

Neither plant requires much in the way of lighting or special care of any sort. They just wont grow as fast and will become slightly paler in lower light conditions. Heck, I used to keep anacharis in tanks lighted with incandescents (back in the day).

With low light plants IME it's best to just leave them to themselves and not add too many extra bits like co2 and ferts.

Vic, I got 15 clowns and they are all smaller than yours and I swear, your clowns will eat the plants. My clowns love to uproot the plants. If I anchor the plants with pebbles, they shred them. If the leaves are hard, they simply shred them to pieces and the pieces get caught in the filter, but if the leaves are soft and green and healthy, well, the clowns EAT THEM.

I only keep artificial plants in this tank now. If you want advice, ask Keithgh, he's the only one whose got clowns and plants, and I really dont know how???????

I just looked in the 55g tank (the one with the low light) and the hornwort is starting to turn red... is this normal?

The anachais still looks great in this tank BTW.

hey guys, after a week, the anacharis in the 55g tank is doing pretty good, how long does it usually take plants to die when their not getting enough light?

Hopefully the light the 55g tank gets is fine, and will host the plant.

Also, the plants still dont seem to be growing, how long should it take before they will start growing?
