One interesting thing about anubias is that they don't need a substrate, just something to tie them down to such as a rock or driftwood. So you can pick out whatever substrate you think looks good. You can plant the anubias in the substrate, but make sure to leave the rhizome above the surface of the gravel. Most of the family are slow growers and only need low lighting, but IME they do really well in medium lighting with CO2.

As Matty said (where ya bein' Matty?) they don't need a substrate.

Anubias tanks are pretty much the easiest tank to do, no equipment, ferts or trimming needed. Anybody can keep them alive.

Only downside is they can be expensive and to fill out a tank nicely either takes a fair bit of $ or a couple of years of patience.

If you can spare the cash to get a decent quantity they are very worth while.

Because they can be attached to wood and rock they are ideal for aquascaping and you create tall parts and short ground cover very easily.

Personally think they look best in thick groups rather then randomly spread out.

You can tie buches of them to tall piece of wood to create height or slopes. Tied to rocks to create mounds. Encircle rocks or pieces of wood for a natural look. Use larger varieties like Coffeefolia or Afzelli as centerpieces.

Get tired with the look of the tank just pick up the rocks or wood with the plants attached and move it somewhere else, voila new aquascape in a few minutes.

Some days you're the pigeon and some days you're the statue.

Remember that age and treachery will always triumph over youth and ability.

Bensaf - I was beginning to wonder if anybody noticed I was gone. Thanks to an unreliable "friend" that lives in my apartment I haven't had internet for the last couple months because he didn't pay the bills even though everyone paid him (approx. $400 he still owes) ]:|. And because of my (still) broken right ankle, I can't drive anywhere to use the internet. Hopefully starting june I should be back up with the internet in my new apartment with some reliable friends(and the ankle should hopefully be good as new in late july, 6 months).

and sorry for taking this off track
