Anubias nana, like most (all?) anubias is like a tank. It needs only low light ~1WPG, or even a little lower, to grow and be healthy. Very little nutrients need to be added, as with CO2. It will use whatever is available to it and won't die out. This is not to say it doesn't need ANY C,N,P,K etc. , just that it can use them in very low levels. It doesn't suck up nutrients as fast as stem plants, so anything you add will more likely become algae food.

Naturally it will benefit from higher light levels and added CO2, but it doesn't NEED them. Just basic light, and whatever CO2 and nutrients are provided from fish and WCs.

The one important thing with Anubias nana, as with other anubias, is to NEVER BURY THE RHIZOME. The roots can be placed in the gravel to anchor the plant down, but the rhizome should not be in the gravel, or even partially in the gravel. For proper planting technique check out one of the last few pages of LITTLE_FISH's planted tank log, he posted some nice pictures.

EDIT: It's actually page 54 of his log.

The max WPG? Oh, I don't know - how many WPG does the sun put out onto the earth's surface?

It'll do well in any light level, it's just that there are factors to consider when putting a plant like this in high lighting. If it's only going to be anubias in the tank then you dont need 2-3WPG with CO2 injection, the nutrient uptake and growth rate of the plant don't justify these expenses. You'd be able to get them to put out one new leaf per week maybe, as opposed to one every 2 weeks or so. You'd only be fueling algae growth. If it's just anubias you want you may be better off with a less expensive low light set-up.

However, if you have an established tank with fast growing stem plants etc., 3-4WPG and CO2, anubias will do great in there as well. It depends on your situation, but in any case none of our common light set-ups match what the sun puts out and anubias grows just fine in the wild...

Glad to help I don't know how much light you have, but as hardy as anubias is I can say with a good deal of certainty it will do fine.

I just finished putting all my anubias plants in my 75gal.,I have many types,3nana plants that look great.I have less than 2 watts.I don't think you can have to much light, but keep in mind that the more light, the more algae you'll see on the leaves.Anubias leaves last a long time and with higher light, you might have a battle on your hands with algae. But they are great plants.cjp.
