![]() | Apon bulbs and a 5 gal hex |
katieb![]() Fish Addict Posts: 697 Votes: 69 Registered: 03-Jul-2004 ![]() ![]() | I saw "grow your own" Apon bulbs at Petco. How hard are they to sprout and will they do well in my tank? How many should I plant? My lighting is 2.6 WPG. I'll do graffiti, If you sing to me in French. |

They should do fine in your lighting though. Critical Fertilator: The Micromanager of Macronutrients |

The plant will, however, make your tank look tiny because the plant is so big. In small tanks it is best to stick to plants with small leaves only, because the small leaf size makes the tank look more spacious. ![]() I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash. |

I have not had trouble with them getting to big yet. It is not difficult to prune them. If one starts to sprout too high grab the ba Christina |

I tried to do one in a 2.5 gal an it took up the entire tank... I wouldn't put aponos in anything smaller than a 20... if in anything smaller than a 55, I'd just do them in a big forest on one side of the tank (like how my 29 is). I've got like 8 aponos in there now, I think... about 1/3 of the tank is an apono forest, and it's expanding. I've probably got about 30 leaves floating at the surface... that's what I haven't trimmed off. I do pull any blossoms right away, tho. I'll take a pic of it an' upload it sometime ![]() Anyway, I wouldn't do aponos in a 5 gal. Remember, you've been warned ![]() |

The tall ones I used about the same as poisonwaffle shoving them all in one corner to make a forest. The short sort of flat ones I put in my 5g and 20g. I got about 3 short ones out of 4 packs of apono bulbs. |
