I can think of three alternatives here.

1: They are trying to fool people into believing the bulb will grow a Betta once you put it in water!

2. The bulb are the bulb of some kind of plant, Aponogeton for instance, that they think is suitable for a Betta setup (hopefully not Ap. then)!

3: It's a light bulb for smaller tanks and probably with some "special wavelengths that makes the colours brighter".

Any of above mentioned alternatives sounds like a trick to sell stuff that aren't suitable but I may (and hope I am) wrong. A little more info might help speeding up replies if I haven't scared everyone of, in that case I apologize.

So here I am once more...

If it's one of those lightbulb-shaped hanging betta bowl I've seen in some chain stores, I woudn't do it. There's one set up at a store near my house and two weeks after they put it on display, it's got algea so thick it's hard to see through to the fish inside and the hole on top of the 'bulb' is so small that there's no way they'll be able to get the algea out. I'm still wondering how the got the betta in the darned thing.

I'm sorry, I shoulda elaborated but was short on time. They are live plants, well bulbs that you plant that seem to do well in betta tanks or whatever. Just wanted to know what they grew into, since they're only packaged as 'betta bulbs'.

I've no idea what kind of plants they are, but maybe the company that puts them out can tell you if you email them.

I got some of them

... along with a couple other kinds of apono bulbs...

They're some sort of apono...either undulatus or crispus or nana... not sure which one for sure (because I bought several others and mixed them in and planted them all), but one thing's for sure: they get too big for betta bowls and they need at least medium light

I wouldn't get them if you intend to put them in a betta bowl... they should definately go in a larger higher light tank (preferably w/co2)
