It is not really serious, just looks like a very light la I've heard that brown algae is due to poor lighting, because I have them on my 15G with no light at all. But on the 55G there are two 40W light, that's 80W for 55G. I don't think that should be a problem. All my fish are doing fine though. Can someone pls tell me why do I have the brown algae? Thanks, Jim |

You have less than 1.5wpg, which would still be considered low light. They do appear in my 2 low light tanks, especially if I overfeed, but I never see them in my 1.7wpg tank. The 1.7wpg tank also have otocinclus, however, which would quickly take care of diatoms before they spread. Fortunately diatoms are very easy to remove manually unlike most other algae types. I just use those floating magnets to quickly clean the glass whenever they become unslightly. Last edited by upikabu at 02-Nov-2005 22:56 Last edited by upikabu at 02-Nov-2005 22:56 -P ![]() |
