I have what looks like brown dust and my java moss and sword plants. Anyone know how to get rid of this. Is there something I should be adding to my filter media.

It definitely is hurting the growth of my plants.

It's all the dirt and particles from your tank (poop, dead organic matter). I also get this problem after I disturb the gravel and all the crap floats up into the plants - especially getting stuck in the java moss.

After this happnes just shake the java moss and other plants and the crap will float around... then hopefully get picked up by the filter. Just keep an eye on the filter media after this, it should get dirty very fast.

The tank is about 6 months old, but I thought I already went through the diatom phase. This stuff looks more dense.

Is it actually stuck on the plants, or does it brush off easily with a wave of your hand?
I've noticed some "brown dust" that I'm assuming is the same thing that guppy01 mentioned...adding some fine filter floss to the intake of my powerhead and rinsing it weekly has seemed to help clear it up .

babelfish it does brush off, but then it makes the tank look really dirty until it settles. Is this unhealthy for the fish to consume when it's stirred up.

I have an eheim cansister filter, which was over due for a
fine filter pad change. Do you think that will help.
