I have been thinking of putting a co2 system on my next tank. I have been thinking about either the Carbo Plus CO2 unit or the CO2 fiz factorey from Jungle. So for i think the Fiz factorey appeals to me most. What are your thoughts?

the diy method is cheaper and produces about the same amount of co2 using about the same materials. that is the only method i have ever tried. maybe someone else can comment on the two you are asking about.

Any links to bulding DIY CO2 systems? Generally, how long and how much does it cost to complete the project?

Cost, empty 2L soda bottle, airline, check valve, aquarium silicone, drill, sugar, yeast.

Directions are as easy as drill hole in bottle cap just a bit smaller than the airline, silicone airline to cap, let dry fully. Attach check valve in the airline.

Mix 2 cups sugar, 1/2tsp yeast, warm (not hot) water to fill to the curve of the soda bottle. Shake. Run airline either into the filter, or into a diffuser.

If the hole is smaller than the airline, how does the airline fit through the hole?

I would say drill a hole the same diameter as the airline..

The airline squishes a bit....it makes for a tighter fit. If you drill the same size as the airline it allows more risk of leaking.

Least that's how I did mine .

I agree with Babel. Thats exactly how I did mine.
If you drill the hole just a bit smaller then you squish the airline in. On mine its airtight like that without any silicone.

No pictures?

It may sound easy for people who actually build one but for first timers, visualization are needed.

So you are saying that the CO2 fiz factorey from jungle and the diy method both are about the same? What about at night when the plants dont need the co2 isnt the water just continue to go acidic?

the water will turn acidic whichever method you use. but your water will reach a saturation point where it can't absorb more co2. if you have the correct flow for either method, you can run them 24/7 and your tank will be fine as long as you remember to change the mixture when it needs to be changed (usually anywhere from 10-20 days). i have a few pics left over from my own diy setup, i'll try to find them and post them here to help out anyone who wants to see them.

Guess I have to agree, after all I pestered moondog for two weeks or so before finally building mine...for some reason I guess I thought it would be harder than it actually was. I'll see about shooting pics too....for some reason I didnt' take any when I did mine :%).
