I've been fighting algae for a while in a tank I started in April. The first battle was aginst brown hair algae. I won that one by adding fast growing plants and feeding well. All was well for a while. I then got a build of an ugly dark brown 'fuzz' all over my hornwort and its growth has slowed. I also now have green hair algae. I will manually revome as much as I can, reduce lighting, etc.

I'm wondering if I inject CO2 into the tank could it be enough to give the plants the boos they need to overpwoer the algae?

Thanks

Eric

Eric,

Tell us a little more about your tank:

- lights (K value(s) – wattage – duration)
- plants (how many – what kind)
- fish (which – how many)
- fertilization (what – when – how much)

With all this info provided it would be easier to judge if CO2 is right for you. The fish question is geared towards possible large ammonia production.

Just to add to what LF just said, adding CO2 certainly won't hurt plant growth - heck, it can only help - but it's not a surefire way to fix algae problems. Some forms of algae grow because of lack of CO2 (BBA i believe) but most times I'd bet it's either a lack or too much of some sort of nutrient. Figuring out the answers to the questions above will help us determine if CO2 is really your limiting factor, or if something else is off.
