Can anyone give me the names of some plants that will form a carpetlike effect?
Low-medium light would be preferable. Thanks!

Carpeting plants can be difficult in low to medium light. Also the choice of plant would be dependent on the tank size.

Dwarf Hairgrass would probably be the easiest for your situation, although if the tank is small the hairgrass might be a little tall for a carpet plant.

One plant I've recntly discovered that makes a beautiful carpet but seems to be totally overlooked (probably because it's hard to find)is Hemianthus "Cuba" (the Cuba is very important-other hemianthus species get too tall). It's a very pretty plant with tiny 1mm leaves but best of all it spreads quickly and can work in low light.Just plant some bunches a few inches apart and it will fill in.

The downside it's quite hard to find. On line suppliers maybe the only option - you wont find this in the local LFS. I know Tropica sell it online on their site

Thanks bensaf. I'll have to see about finding some. The current tank in question is just my 10g badis siamensis tank.

Hi,

Another plant that is always overlooked as a carpet option are anubias bateri var nana, those are easy to find and if you get a stainless steel mesh or a plastic mesh and tangle some of the roots (not rizome), to it, it will spread quite well and will do a wonderful carpet.
