I recently made a foray to the river, and found some awesome moss. I would like to attach it to my driftwood.
I currently have it soaking in a fish bowl full of water with saran wrap over the top.
Is there anything else I should do to prep it?
I dont want to boil it cuz I want it to grow on my DW peice.
It comes from a pristine river, no pollution or anything. Our rivers are very clean here. It is semi-terrestrial, but was growing partially underwater on this submerged log, and the only difference was the underwater stuff had bigger fronds.
Well, let me know what I can do, or if soaking the bugs and critters out for a week or so should be enough.

Well you don't want to that cos you'll just end up with soup

if soaking the bugs and critters out for a week or so should be enough.

Well you took it from a river, so soaking probaly won't remove anything, any critters that might be there would be just as happy soaking in your water

The main concern would be chemicals and pollutants , but if the river was clean should be ok. If it had any serious chemicals in the water the moss would probably not have survived.

As for critters, if there are any the fish will probably enjoy the snack

Really the only concern would be something parasitic, but I would say the risk is small.

Some people treat new plants with an Alum dip. Personally I don't bother and just plop them in

I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Your biggest concern maybe keeping the plant alive. Depending on the moss temperature may be an issue. Personally I find mosses quite temperature sensitive, even good 'ol Java. Pulling it from a cool local stream and putting it a balmy heated tank may be a bit much for it. Worth a try though. If it shows signs of distress whip it out.

Some days you're the pigeon and some days you're the statue.

Remember that age and treachery will always triumph over youth and ability.

Thanks Bernard.
That is what I was thinking. If it shows signs of distress, I will remove it to my yard heh.
Thanks!

Just a note: most wild mosses do very poorly in the home aquaria, but best of luck to you .
