I picked up these two plants from my LFS, and was wondering if it's alright to cut the crypt wendtii plant in half at the roots to make 2 smaller plants? The roots are quite entwined together, and I would want to cause it any harm by doing this. It's the 'Mi Oya' version.

What would be the best method for planting a marsh pennywort? (Hydrocotyle verticillata). Can it be used as a floating plant as well?

Any other tips on preping these two plants before planting?

Thanks ahead of time.

i've heard others here say to soak your crypts in tap water before putting them in the tank, as most crypts will "melt" if they are transported from one tank to another with different water conditions. i personally have tried to separate a crypt wendtii like you said and it didn't last, so i would not recommend doing it. just wait for it to grow and it will send out runners with new plants eventually

Both the crypt an pennywort seem to be doing pretty good... no crypt meltdown so far I carefully seperated them both, making 5 smaller plants out of the crypt and 2 smaller bunches out of the pennywort.

I had the crypt wendtii running under cool tap water while I was seperating it like you said, seems it probably helped to keep the plant from melting so far

Thanks moondog
