At my LFS we had about 5 plants which I belive to be Amazon swords, anyway we had, had them for about 2 months and they wernt selling, we also dont sell alot of plants so we dont have the setups. The leaves were all turning brown and coming apart, so I dicded to take them and see if I could nurse them back to health. I got them home and just put them in my planted tank and wanted to see if they would come back. Its been two weeks and they still havent come around. Rember thats jsut the leaves the steams and eveything else are green. So today I took all the plants out and cut off all the dead leaves, but not the steams. Will this help them, will new leaves grow off the steams?Should I also cut the steams?
Thanks for the help

Many aquarium plants are grown emersed, with their leaves above the water. When they are submersed, it's common for the leaves to suffer and fall off. With proper conditions, I think your swords will come back. Make sure the growing point is not planted too deep. Do you have an iron rich substrate or use tabbs to feed them? What kind of lighting do you have, and how large of a tank?

I do have the tabs and the iron fertilizer, the plats are in a 29 gallon hex, which i think may be the problem. The lighting is an 18" 15 watt.

I doubt it will do any good to the plants since your aquarium falls into low light category. If you can increase the light somewhow do that first.

Leaves will not grow back from the stems, what you need to do it to cut all the leaf less stems and leave just the center of the plant trimm the roots to a half of their actual size and just give it time, it sure come back but it will take a few weeks before you see any changes.

Good luck!
