Yes, assuming you mean the plant substrate (EcoComplete makes cichlid sand and a few others, just to clarify). I'm having good luck with it.

Yes, the plant substrate. Do you think I'll be o.k. with just over 2wpg, co2, ferts etc.

Definitely. It's really a low-maintenance plant - give it some good light and plant it in very small groups, ideally with tweezers, and you'll succeed.

Everything LM said I stand by. I have had great luck with this plant even in large gravel at 1.5 wpg. A great plant, and one of my favorites. I would eco complete would serve only to further boost it's steady growth. ;D
