i was wondering if a 20 watt life-glo flourescent light was sufficient for moderate light plants in my 35g. i know that the rule for a moderately lighted tank is 2.5 watts per gallon but i didnt know if it was different for flourescent lights because i cant seem to find a flourescent light over 20 watts. if this isnt enough light can someone recommend me another type of light?

thanks in advance

It is really not enough light to do too much growth in your plants but you should be able to grow some easy growers like Java Fern and Anubias.

In my 55G I have been growing an amazon sword using a two 15W Aqua-glo's. It is not growing like crazy but it is growing. I have found that root tabs and flourish excel really help it along.

20W fluorescent will give you somewhere around .5wpg. definitely not even enough for low light. if you want to get up around the 2-3wpg mark, you need to look into compact fluorescent lighting, or buying extra light strips to reach those levels.
