Or would they just eat it to shreads?? If not I would prefer a floating plant that has little maintinace seeing this would be my first time with plants =) I also have household plants that are vines, would they be able to be put in my tanks to root?? Or should I hold off on that thought until i know what kind of plants they are? Any help would be great and it will help me into the plant scene which I love as well. Angel Eel |

If not I'd like to have it Could you pick where java fern can grow? (say only on one rock) LOL I might sound like a total retard but I have no idea Research hehe. Any help is great =p Also I need to know what is needed for these guys to stay alive do you just put em in there or does it involve more? THX Angel Eel |

moondog![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Moderator The Hobnob-lin Posts: 2676 Kudos: 1038 Votes: 4366 Registered: 30-Sep-2002 ![]() ![]() | you usually fasten java fern to whatever surface you want it to grow on (rocks, driftwood, etc). you can fasten it with either cotton thread, or rubber bands, whichever is easiest. thread is usually recommended, especially cotton thread, as it will be "invisible" as compared to rubber bands. same with anubias. fasten it to a surface (wood is better, but rocks work almost as well) and as long as no fish knocks it down it will attach itself to that surface in a few weeks "That's the trouble with political jokes in this country... they get elected!" -- Dave Lippman |

mariosim![]() Enthusiast Posts: 207 Kudos: 245 Votes: 20 Registered: 28-Jul-2004 ![]() ![]() | i purchased a clump of fern awhile ago. the thread disentegrated and i let the individual "leaves" anchor themselves. it took several months, but several patches are now rooted and growing. nothing close to carpet. if you have sufficient lighting, browse some local pond plant stores for floating plants. some get rather large and may survive an oscar's constant pecks. |

It survives a wide range of temps, doesnt taste too good, grows slowly (without co2), isnt' too demanding about nutrients and ferts and does not require CO2. Just tie it down like moondog mentioned and you probably wont have to worry about it.
