Could I put a young flying fox in there to slow down the beard alage? (want a SAE, but can't get LFS to order any .)

I don't think a flying fox is what you are looking for, the Siamese Algae Eater is said to eat bearded algae but the one I had did nothing so, he was given to a friend. I how ever replaced him with Florida Flag Fish, and they do enjoy eating bearded algae and do a great job of it. Even if you get a Siamese Algae Eater after awhile the stop eating algae all together because learn that you will feed them. Myself I use 2 females to 1 male FFF in each tank as a standard part of my maintenance crew. Also the FFF only get about 2"s compared to the Siamese Algae Eater to 6"'s
