- I know, who would want to grow duckweed in a tank

I have two goldies who would love to eat it. I tried once to throw a handful in there, but they ate it all and I lost my stock. Previously, I tried to grow it in a jar in the windowsill, but it just didn't multiply that rapidly. I'm hoping this duckweed will also help keep my nitrates at bay. Does it soak up alot?

I took some of the riccia I got and some of the duckweed or frogbit that was in the riccia (not sure how to tell the difference) and threw it into a breeding net on the side of the tank. It is not directly under 40w of light, but partially under it and circulating within the net. Will this be a decent way to cultivate the two for my goldies to eat? Does anyone know if goldies will eat riccia?

It soaks up nitrates pretty well, yes.
That could work well, but it could go either way.
I'm sure they'd eat riccia.
Here's another idea, for when you have enough to start trying things with it: float fake plants, or hornwort, at the top of the tank. Duckweed can grow among them, partially protected from the voracious goldies, and send out plantlets that'll move around more and get eaten.

When i used to have goldies i just left it in a bowl near the window (duckweed), i thought it would develop algae but instead it grew like crazy, no current no filter not even water changes, just reposition of the evaporated one, at one time i was feeding them with the stuff every other day.
