Did you mean 3.2 W of light a gallon? Personally I dont think any plants could survive 3.2 watts of light . Do you have C02 in the tank? or do you use fertilizer? Those ingredient are essential to your plants and they depend mostly on them to be healthy. Give some more info about your tank.

Axl,

A lot of these types of plants are grown emmersed. I go thru the same thing with Tenellus. The emersed leaves turn brown and die off to be replaced by new green submersed shoots. It can appear as if the plant is dying completely.

Check that you have some new green shoots popping up (they'll be quite small at this stage) if you do all will be fine.

It's quite common for Hairgrass to be grown emmersed before selling.

If it looks like grain (the tops of the grass contain small buds), then they were grown emersed, and they'll shape up in no time.

i also just got a small pot of those hairgrass with the grain looking stuff on top.

i separated them into different plants, and planted them about 2 weeks ago, sure they dont look as green as before, but they are also growing a lot of new leaves around the main plant by sending out new runners

I think 3.2 watts per galon is a bit stingy i'd go for 4-5 watts per gal

5wpg is a bit over kill. You can grow anything in 4wpg provided the light isn't blocked by anything, the tank isn't extra deep, and other needs are provided. 3wpg is generally enough for hairgrass.

I would totally disagree. Anything above 3.5 wpg is complete overkill in my opinion. Your simply providing light the plants can't use. There's absolutely nothing to be gained in trying to push plant growth beyond it's natural capability, apart from additional maintenance and algae issues..

Just about any plant out there will do fine in 3wpg. More is sometimes less.
