Got it a while ago... the store had no idea what it was, they didn't even know what Hornwort was. *eep*

It's growing well in my tank... wanted to suggest it for a friend, but remembered I had no name!

Looks like Hygrophila corymbosa, or possibly H. polysperma (photo's a little blurry).

At first I thought Hygrophila polysperma, but the leaves are too 'compact' with each other. It kind of reminds me of stricta - except for the reddish leaves at the top.

Like LM said it also looks like Hygrophila corymbosa - but to me the pic lacks the 'veins' that H. corymbosa usually has.

Thanks guys.. I'll try to get better pics tonight, to see if that helps. Although, I doubt the LFS would know what it is, since they didn't know Hornwort.

I would definately lean more towards h. corymbosa than h. polysperma. Not nearly enough stem between the leaves for polysperma. If it is corymbosa it might eventually outgrow your tank.

It looks just like my blue stricta - mine is also very compact and the newer top leaves have a reddish hue to them then turn green as the next lot arrive.

In wildness, nature is not human-hearted!

Anywhere would be fine. Usually people clip about the top 1/3rd, but it's up to you. The bottom section, no matter what Hygro species it is, will be happy to send off a shoot or two.

Okay, this is where confusion of scientific names and common names become a problem. Here in Australia Hygrophila Corymbosa is not the same plant as "Giant hygro". That Giant Hygro is actually what we call "Stricta" or Blue stricta". When when I looked up stricta on tropica.com the plant is different to waht we have labelled stricta! The plant we get called Hygrophila Corymbosa is the variant "Siamensis" on the tropica site.

At least we know you have some dort of Hygrophila, it really doesn't matter - most of them are hardy, easy to care for plants anyway.
