I bought some plants that were labeled as Hornwort from my LFS last week. But tonight I saw a completely different plant labeled as Hornwort at Petsmart. I'd like to know what I REALLY have. Thanks! |

There aren't any distinguished parts of the plant; everything looks exactly the same. It has no root system; I heard once that hornwort anchored to gravel would put down roots to hold the plant in place, but I've never seen it on any of my pieces. If you're still not sure, then take the hornwort and leave it floating in your tank on the surface. If the plant seems to be trying to conquer the entire surface of your tank, then you probably have hornwort. ![]() EDIT: This is a close-up picture, doesn't show the broad structure but it'll help with the fine details. Again, not mine: Hornwort up close out of the tank Last edited by Silverlight at 17-Nov-2004 07:39 |

None the less it's a pretty plant, I'm hoping I can keep it healthy... I'm still not all that great at planting, I've only managed to keep (aka not kill) Anachris (sp?) and my Hygrophila polysperma 'Rosanervig'. I still have my Madagascar Lace, something or other, but it's not doing all that great. I can't get it to grow... grows a little.. leaves die... starts the process all over again. I've had the most luck with anacharis, amazon swords, moneywort, anubias, crypts and cabomba. ~~ ![]() [/font] ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |
