![]() | How are vals in low light? |

I may purchase a Coralife 2x65w 48 fixture above the tank. Anyway, I'm looking for a good plant to fill the background. Vals look very nice when they grow and fill in. How do they do in 1-1.5wpg setups? |

You can always run with a nice hardscape and java ferns, java moss, and there are many anubias like gigantea that grow very tall on thier own. I pointed you out to tropica in the other thread, you can look for low light plants there under advanced search. Critical Fertilator: The Micromanager of Macronutrients |

The tank is of a nice shape and rather deep, and you will get sick of the Vals soon anyway. That is, of course, if you are really into planted tanks by now and not just another temporary fluke, then it would be a waste of money. Ingo ![]() |

I just want some plants to fill the background and some areas of the foreground. Monster fish will still be the focus of the tank. |

Stick with them, it'll save aggravation. ![]() EDIT: My apologies, I did something I hate doing - replied but didn't answer the question. I think yes, they will live and grow - slowly - in 1WPG. Without CO2 and more light IME they'll grow rather brittle and not as nicely as they can. So yes, they will grow, but if you want a taller long leaved plant for those conditions I think some large java ferns would work better. |
