![]() | How is this for a plant stocking list? 75G |
rewd![]() Big Fish Posts: 351 Votes: 0 Registered: 29-Aug-2003 ![]() ![]() | For my new 75G. Trying to stick with plants listed on aquariumplants.com as being low or low-moderate light because I'm only going to be at 1.6WPG for now. That's using an AGA twin tube 48" strip light and the single bulb 48" strip light that came with the tank. The names are copied from the website and I have multiples of each, not just one of each. Opinions are very welcome. ![]() -Anacharis (Egeria najas) -Heteranthera Stargrass (Heteranthera zosterfolia) -Ludwigia, Broad Leaf (Ludwigia repens) -Hygrophilia, Tropic Sunset(Hygrophila polysperma) -Bacopa (Bacopa carolina) -Asian Ambulia (Limnophila sesiliflora) -Corkscrew Vals (Vallisneria americana) -Anubias Nana (Anubias barteri v. Nana) -Afzelii (Anubias afzelii) -Coffeefolia (Anubias barteri v. Coffeefolia) -Retrospiralis (Cryptocoryne retrospiralis) -Tiger Lotus, Red (Nymphaea zenkeri) -Java Fern Are these plants ok in a lower light situation? I know the Java fern is fine and I have Anubias nana at the moment in a small tank with lots of light. No CO2 is planned for the immediate future because I'm short on cash, but that will come eventually. I do have flourish excell to use in the mean time but in a 75G that might go pretty quick. The anubias and java fern are going to be attached to a large piece of driftwood or in crevices of a few rock caves I have planned. EDIT: And I'm going to use play sand for a subtrate and an Eheim 2026 canister filter which I assume will reduce surface movement over an HOB filter. Last edited by Rewd at 29-Oct-2004 21:13 |

All the plants listed should do just fine in 1.6wpg. There's a few fast growers there that will help suck up excess nutrients and balance the tank. Over all a very nice choice, suitable, for your set up, all pretty easy, a mixture of fast and slower growers, different shapes sizes and textures. Good choice. Nice to see somebody do their homework before they jump in to plants. Remember that age and treachery will always triumph over youth and ability. |

I considered the fact that there were nutrient sucking plants in this mix but I'm not sure how that will affect the cycle when I finally get this thing going in a few days. It's generally better to plant a tank while cycling because, as you said, it will help balance the tank, right? |

But they'll be doing that no matter when you put them in. So all in all best to put them in from the start. Start as you mean to go on ![]() Remember that age and treachery will always triumph over youth and ability. |
