Hi all

Last night as I ran into WalMart to get a couple of things I needed I was kind of pulled toward the pet sectionand was kind of forced to buy a new tankdon't get all excited it's only one of those 2.5 gallon Mini Bows but, heck I wanted a tank for the classroom, now I've got a small one till I can get a larger one

Anyways, it is only 2.5 gallons. I have one like it at home and well it has become a forest full of anacharis and java moss:%)Fruit Loop, who lives in it, kind of loves it, and uh kind of hates it:%) I was thinking of running to the LFS up here by the school and getting a small piece of driftwood, and tying some java moss to it , and was also thinking, it came with a 15 watt light, so I work it into having about 6 wpg? Is that right?

So what kind of really easy plants could I try in this tank? Any ideas? Keep in mind I have a black thumb and kill almost everything I lay my hands on, probably because I don't have the right lighting I think So something simple, I'm going to use just regular tank gravel from another tank, but can add a couple of inches or so if need be. I don't want to deal with CO2 especially at school and if I have to remember to fertilize or something it's gonna have to be fairly simple or I'll probably end up with a toxic dump instead of a tank

Fish in question? A Betta of Course

Thanks ahead of time

So... how's Fred? Still think he needs a different name, but hey, if he's Fred, he's Fred.

First of all, got to make sure what kind of light you've got. If it's the incandescent type (and I think that's what it comes with), you'll need to pick up a screw in fluourescent to get optimum growth.

In any case, I'd say your best bets are the low light plants... even if it IS technically 5+ wpg, it's still only 15 watts. Besides, java fern and anubias are some of the hardiest things out there. Java moss up the driftwood, get a few java ferns and maybe a small anubias if you like... I grow small crypts in my five gallon minibow.

Nice thing about java fern and anubias is that they really don't need much in the way of fertilizers. Run on over to petco and peruse those gel-packed plants in the plastic tubes. I got some rather nice looking java fern from there.

Also, heidi... take a look at your Petco for one other thing. I don't know about yours, but mine has a big ol' sign on the door saying that they're doing a giveaway of some sort... Ten gallon tank for your classroom? It's strictly for teachers, some sort of drawing, I think. I dunno.. I'm not a teacher, so I didn't pay as much attention as I should have. Just thought it was an idea.
