Does anyone know which plant this is? I've had it in my tank for a couple of months now, it grows relatively fast, somewhat sideways, but also upwards. I keep it as a carpet in the front of the tank, thought it doesn't seem to be particularly suited for that purpose. to keep it down I trim it like a hair cut with scissors every 2 - 3 weeks.

Doc,

It's Hemianthus Micranthemoides. Been looking for some for ages (you always seem to have the plants I'm looking for ). Also known as Pearlweed.

In bright light it does tend to grow vertically, explaining the carpety look you have going. Very nice plant.

BTW, your tank is looking better then ever. Very very nice. Might even convince me to try a "Dutch" style some day :88)

thanks to both of you I think Bernard has the correct one Tryst, though the photo in your link looks a lot like it, the descriptions and photos which come up with Bernard's guess match better with the stuff in my tank

Bernard, I picked up two pots of this plant in the same department store where I got my yoyos, go figure (see photo booth thread). I didn't know what it was, but it looked promising as a carpet plant. It grows like a weed, real nice and has spread quite a bit since I put it in. the cuttings can be just put in the substrate and will grwo out like little plantelets in no time. Too bad you're so far away, otherwise I would have sent you a couple of the cuttings.

I've been for this stuff as well, along with callitrichoides.

Nice find.

Hemianthus callitrichoides "Cuba" is like a miniture version of the already miniture Mac. It can work in low light and makes a great carpet. I have a grower here who keeps piles of the stuff, I justed haven't got a tank to put it in - yet.

It can be very difficult to find Noodles.
Everybody seems to be to busy messing about with Riccia and Glosso to try this easy carpet plant ! If you really want some the best thing will be to splurge out and order some from Tropica. A little goes a long way with this stuff.

I was just guessing....teh pic looked a bit similar to hygro

Anyway it is beautiful.

Tropica doesn't ship to the USA because of importation laws or something. sorry guys....but Tropica plants are available in Canada. They are actually a supplier for Big Al's stores so if you have one near you and ask the manager very nicely they will sometimes special order.

That looks like it would be a very nice addition to my 10 gallon planted.

Noodles,

Be glad to "hook you up", don't know if the plant would survive either the trip from Indonesia to the US or Indonesian postal servive for that matter.

Miss Moffet,
I can see why you'd think it was Hygro. The giveaway is the leaves. Hygro has 2 at each node the Hemianthus has 3
BTW , why do I have the feeling you are somebody I know but under a new username

Bernard, it's our beloved Tryst who can't make up whether she has monkeys in her pants or is a muppet

Good call on the three leaves per nodule! I had not even noticed that, some plant biologist I am

Aha !

Tryst !!!!

Knew I recognised the "voice".

Will you please settle on a username, very confusing for us simple folk. Going from Bonke to Dr.Bonke is about as big of a change as I can cope with :%)

BTW if you're finished with the monkey pants can I have them ?
