I just bought a java fern and tied it to a rock. I have 2.5 watts per gallon in the tank and a DIY co2 setup (helping a little).

Is this too much light?

if it is you could put a floating plant above it...hornwort or something would do the job and you coould sell the clippings online or to the LFS.

if the light is not too intense i would like to just leave things the way they are.

if you want thing tos tay the way they are try a bit of duck weed floating (it is VERY hardy and easy to come by)most of your fish will nibble at it to keep it under control and also you will providing the shade to your java fern necessary...

also the location of the plant in respect to the lighting fixture/bulbs would be useful too as we dont know if it is in direct light or indirect and it si still burning it.
