Hi

I'm really excited!! We did the rounds of the LFS in our area today and stumbled upon some java moss for sale!

I know it seems silly to be excited about something as simple as java moss but we have not seen any for sale around here for the 10+ years that we have been fish keeping so it's a bit of a find. Admittedly it was expensive (Au$13) but since it is such a rarity around here I just had to have some. I might even go back tomorrow and get more if there is any left.

I think the way that they have set them up for sale is kind of nifty - It looks like it has been secured with plastic mesh around a ping-pong ball and attached to a piece of fishing line and sinker so that in the tank it looks as though it is hovering mid-water.

I have linked in a few photos of it below.

I just had to share the excitement - we had a friend visit today who is not as into tanks as us and I could tell they weren't sure what all the fuss was about!

Yes, that does look interesting, looks like a floating planet of moss. Let see if the fish hang around them for security. My only question is are they using lead weights to tie it down. I have always been under the understanding that you do not want any metals in the tank.

It's a fishing sinker so I guess it's probably lead - I was thinking I should swap it for a rock or something.

I was just so excited I had to get it in the water straight away.
