I have a common pleco about 6 inches long and somehow, he manages to suck on my amazon swords hard enough to damage them...what can I do?

Remove the pleco or remove the damaged swords. If he is damaging the plants...maybe you should get rid of him.

What size tank is it?

If that is the only plant he is damaging, then just remove it (or them).

Plecos are pretty notorious for eating broadleafed plants. They tend to munch on them less if you feed them better. Try adding sinking wafers, cucumber, or zucchini a couple times a week at least.

If you want large plants like the sword, add an Anubias barteri or two. I have 2 in my 30 gallon that take up half of the tank.

I sympathise with you Darkcichlid.

Same thing happened to me with my bristlenoses. I had two beautiful broadleaf swords and within 2 weeks all the leaves were gone. Ended up taking them out and putting them into my 24" tank where for some reason all my plants are growing beautifully.

Definately try giving them more veg and algae wafers.

Those who say they cant, Never will !!!

I've never had any problems with my plecos but I feed lots of vegetables. Partially for the applesnails but there is almost always a piece of lettuce, kale, swiss chard, cucumber, mango, zuchini, or squash in the tank and usually a couple plecos or loaches munching on them.
