Came back from vacation to see my newly planted Hygrophila Polysperma and Hygrophila 'Rosanervig'reaching for the light and having grown pretty quickly.

How do I prune to keep full looking. Thanks!

Hi,

Look for the nodes at the top that have already developed roots from the stem, then trim 1 inch bellow that and replant 2 in away from the original stem. You can keep the original stem for it to grow new leaves but it will take a while.

So your better off discarding the root system and replanting the top half if you want them to stay full.

Not sure about the Sunset but for regular Polysperma let them grow across the surface for a while. The light is brightest here and they quickly grow much bigger then normal leaves AND a lot of side shoots. With a few days you can have some stems with 3 or 4 branches

Once you have the desired size you can cut those stems that are floating across the surface and replant them and you have a beautiful bushy big leaved polysperma.

I throw a bucket of the stuff out every week. When you have enough of this stuff it is best to just keep the tops and discard the bottom as it gets raggedy.

Some days you're the pigeon and some days you're the statue.

Remember that age and treachery will always triumph over youth and ability.
