Hallo!
I bought an aquarium in september and it was a boyu one.
The problem was that it could take only a 36cm lamp....So there was a problem...
But then I tried to fix that so I did some things to it and xreated wire extensions and manage to fit a 45cm lamp...But when I turned them on they couldn't get on...They were turning on and off all the time...
The lamps I had were 10W each and now the new ones are 15W (sera plants light) each....Its not a problem with the lamps cause they worked at the store when I returned them.
So the problem is that I cant have normal light for my plants.
What can I do?

The problem is that your light unit can't handle the higher watt lamps. Just replacing the lamps with larger ones by extnding cables is not going to make it work, what you need is a fitting that produces the correct amount of power.

... or perhaps just a whole new light fixture, if you can save up enough money. Or is there something about the tank that would prevent this?

Yep it sounds like the ballast is the problem.

Typically to get more light over tanks we have to add more bulbs. The ballast usually aren't suitable for higher wattages. That just leaves more ballasts more bulbs.

Depending on your hood construction this can be difficult/impossible or relatively simple. But if you want to get serious with plants then the lighting/hood that came with a tank usually has to go or be heavily modified.
