Some of you may know I am setting up a lowlight setup. I am pretty well into the project and am looking for some good low lights to complete the setup. The tank is a 29 gallon, and I might be adding a DIY CO2 setup soon.

So far I have an Ozelot Sword (Echinodorus 'Ozelot'), A sword plant I am not sure of , and some dwarf sag. I am thinking of moving the sword, but I don't have a tank with enough lighting for it.

Anyway, I was wondering what low-lights you guys recomend. Right now I am looking for something colorful, similar to Telanthera roseafolia, but low light.

Thanks in advance

Red temple plant doesn't need much more than 2wpg to grow....however I wouldnt' suggest a CO2 unit on a tank that's too low of light. There's just no need for it because the plants won't be able to use it, whereas the algae will .

I know java ferns don't need much light, and I don't think crypts do either.

I don't want to disagree with Dabel as she's the best, but in my 29 gal tank with 1 wpg of light, CO2 made a HUGE difference. Especially with fast growing plants. And helps reduce algae also. For $10. or less, you can DIY the CO2 and see if it works for you or not..

Really there is nothing colorful that will grow with less then 2 wpg. Those that will grow will probably grow out green leaves instead of red which defeats the purpose !

Ludwigia Repens may do ok and will get a reddish tint depending on light. Sunset Hygro also, but if not enough light the leaves will turn green.

Some crypts have a nice reddish color.

You can always play with different shades of green and contrasting leaf types and shapes to give a more interesting look.

Alternanthera reinekii (Babel already mentioned it, Red Temple is a common name) does surprisingly well, and stays fairly pink, at least underneath, in low light. The othergood bet is a red dwarf lotus - I've never seen these go green in low light, they just stay small.
And don't forget the lovely, contrasting brown shades afforded by numerous crypt species!
