Hey everyone. I bought a couple of those moss balls, I was just wondering if they would attach to a surface or would they esentially just stay in the balled form. I know it is a form of algae and not an actual plant. I'm just wondering if will spread or cover a particular object like driftwood or rock the way java moss does

IME they just hang out on the bottom as a ball. Mine doubled in size, but stayed ball shaped when I had it. I saw a gigantic one come into the store ~6 inch diameter, still a ball shape. I've never seen it used in such a fashoin to cover a surface. It would just seem to me that there are other plants better suited for that, but doesn't mean you shouldn't be creative and try it out.

Does it do anything special or just sit there?

Sometimes it floats around. It's algae...what do you expect?

I've heard of people managing to flatten it out, tie it down, and get it to grow on driftwood. Never seen the end result though and it seems it requires a bit of work. It prefers to just grow on itself.

Basically they do just sit there. Best to turn them occasionally if the current isn't moving them or the bottom dies from lack of light.

I personally think they are kind of ugly. Do people like to just have them sitting there and doing nothing?

Alone I think they look kinda weird, but maybe if theyre incorporated into a rock pile they might look better...
