What do you think?
29 gallon glass tank
200 watt heater
Aqua Clear 50
Coralife freshwater 65 watt 6700K strip
3" of Eco Complete
Hagen C02 soon to come.

This tank will have just over two watts per gallon. Is this still considered a low light tank?

This system is replacing my 24 Gallon Nano Cube.

Sounds pretty good to me. I would consider it medium light. The heater is a little over powering though. I aim for 3-5 watts of heat per gallon of water. I have a 150 watt heater on my 29.

Hi dharris,

I hope you will have a lot of fun with the 29G. I made en entry in another thread that you participated in, maybe you have seen it. Anyways, I will repeat what I said there: I think you are underfiltered and overheated. I would suggest the Aquaclear 70 and a 150W heater (for the same reasons clownloachfan mentions). The AC 50 might just work, but I doub’t that it really can keep up when things get a little “messy”, like a little overstocked etc. If it not too late, maybe you could reconsider.

About your light question, no – you are not low light. I give you the stamp of approval for medium light . Seriously, you should be at around 2.3wpg and that’s pretty good. You might not be able to handle high light plants, such as most of the red leaved ones, but otherwise a lot of options are out there for you.

If you care, here is A Link to my 29G with the same lighting system (beginning page 2, first I only had 40W). BTW, ignore my entry that says my AC is a 50, I just didn’t know the new naming convention for it yet (it’s a 70 – used to be called 300).

Again, have fun with the tank and keep us posted on plants and fish for it .

Ingo
