here is an oppurtunity for you guys to let your minds run rampid.

i just took out all the sand in my 75g tank as some of you know and replaced it with pea sized gravel 2+ inches deep. so im looking for suggestions on what to add. it cant be a forest because of a large pleco in the tank who isnt gona shrink lol.

im looking for a nice over hanging canopy look out of the left corner. i was thinking a large sword with some lillys mixed in over hanging the driftwood. use thw wood as a terrace and have the plant life creep to the right. this is where i get lost.

there is currently hornwort to the right and java on the wood. any and all of this is changable. i also seem to have nitrate issues i would like to put a nice dent in. i like the look of anubias with the nice broad leaves but they dont get tall enough for a 20 inch tank.

also the caves in the back need to stay clear this is where mr pleco sleeps.

here are is a pic to help ya out.

We're concentrating on the left rear corner right?

Well, my suggestion for a canopy would be something like a few Vallisneria americana or a few Blyxa aubertii who will grow to the surface and make a canopy. Then I you can put the larger drifwood in front of it where you can put the anubias you were thinking of. The valls/blyxa will provide a nice backdrop for the wood and will also make a nice canopy that will shade the anubias below it.

Only problem is that you will have to think what to put in the centre...

Okay, don't freak out, but I was a little bored and wanted to polish my limited photoshop skills, so I came up with this image:

untitled attached this image:

I actually thought about putting the wood the other way around, but this is as far as I took it on photoshop...

Sin,

After talking to you in chat last night just after I logged out I thought of something.

Nuphar Japonica ( I need a break when things like that pop in to my head in the middle of the night ).

Sounds what you're looking for. Big broad leaves which spread out horizontally. Looks like a lily but unlike them the leaves won't make a dash for the surface, it's quite happy to stay submersed. Medium light. According to Tropica the leaves have a chemical property that prevents it from getting algae The rhizome is a bit ugly so looks best behind a piece of wood or rock ! How's that sound ?

There's a pic below and you can find a better one here http://www.interaquaristik.de/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=3254

I haven't seen Falstaff around for a while I was hoping he'd pop into this. He knows a good bit about the swords and had a link (which I now can't find) to side which had a lot of good info and pics of various swords.

Yes. Given enough years it may outgrow the tank. That can get quite big.
