The title basically says it all. The fish that mostly terrorizes plants is my green severum. He dispises plants more than anything else on earth. So I'm looking for a plant that will possibly give him a run for his money. Right now the tank looks a bit bland with just rocks. Help please. Thanks in advance.

Cichlids usually eat plants & i wouldn't bother adding them in my tank. It's better to have a rocky tank, than having some half eaten plants. What do you think?.

try some plastic or silk plants. that's about all you can get with cichlids

Don't go with a lot of rocks with a severum. They like a habitat with a fair amount of driftwood and plants. But since they tear up almost all plants fake plants are the best way to go.

Well the reason that I started using real plants in my fish tanks in the first place is because fake ones would always accumulate a lot of algae and need to be taken out of the tank and scrubbed off, a pain. Would my plecos clean off plants if I got fake ones?

Try anubias, they are pretty tough and extremely hardy. Try one to start, see how they react to it and go from there.

i missed that it was a severum. try java fern, my severums had nothing to do with it, although my snails gobbled it up pretty quickly

Shucks I just threw out a bunch of java fern from my old 10 gallon. I might try some more of that, it grew like a weed in my 10. Anubias, I think there's some of that at the lfs too. I've seen how my sev likes to grab the plants by the leaf and just shove it into the corner (fake plants) so I don't know how they will do but I think I'll try. Thanks for the help!

I gave up with plants and fake plants altogether. The fake plants were continually floating on the top of the tank. Looks like you will have to get another tank
