Well im just asking questions about the new tank i want to get at xmas. The question is about light and whether these plants will survive and grow(anubias plants, java fern, lace java fern, hornwort, ancharis). I am either getting another 30 or a 55. 30-30watts, 55-40watts. Will it mater in the 55 that is less than 1 watt per gallon for the anubias and ferns since these plants do good in low light and subdued conditions? |

The java, lace java, and hornwort should be ok, but you might have excess dropping of needles from the hornwort. As for the other plants, less than 1 watt per gallon might not be enough for them to thrive. But they might just barley make it. Remember a 55 is deeper than a 20 so 1 Watt per gallon in a 55 is going to be less beneficial to the plants than if they were in a 20L at roughly the same amount of light. I have just brought a duel globe reflector unit. with 80w in it now so its over 1.7wpg. I think it makes a difference. I was advised to get 2wpg for plants like java fern etc etc. But let us know if it goes ok for you. |

If i go for the 55, should i get the double bright strip light that is 80watts? Would this be good? |

If it is, which i dont think, ill get the 30 instead. It still all depends what ill be able to get on xmas. |

It of course would not hurt. Why invest in CO2 when you can make it yourself. Do a google search for DYI CO2 and you will find plenty of instructions. The standard DIY CO2 uses a 2 ltr bottle and is really only good for up to a 20 gal. For a 55 just use 2. You can make all of it for about 10 USD. |
