What kind of special attention do plants need? I bought 2 "batches" of Hornwart at my LFS and it looked very good for about a month then faded to death over the next month. I have recently picked up 2 more "batches" of Hornwart and cant seem to keep one of the "batches" to stay planted in the gravel...

It's easier to keep them planted if you use metal weights to keep the bunches down. In a few weeks, the roots will have grown into the gravel and the plants won't come loose very easily.

Natalie, since when does hornwort root?!

Hornwort is a floating plant that doesn't root...you can weight it down with lead weights, or let it float...it doesn't really matter...

You need flourescent or compact flourescent bulbs on the tank for live plants to grow, and hornwort doesn't really need anything other than that and the junk in yer tank (nitrates, water, trace elements, etc).

Have fun

Umm... I have had lots of hornwort root into the gravel. Pretty much any (non-floating) plant will, and it's not really that hard.

True Hornwort (Ceratophyllum demersum) is a floating plant by nature and has no roots. If it does root, it isn't hornwort.

Ok, after reading your comments I started thinking I was a complete moron for trying to plant a floating plant. I went downstairs to check out the plant and the reciept...I have Moneywart, not Hornwart. lol
