Does any one uses:- FloraPride?.

This is what it's written on the bottle:-

FloraPride promotes the growth of floating and rooted aquatic plants through a combination of nutrients including potassium and iron. FloraPride is a vital compliment to substrate fertilizers as part of a complete plant care program. FloraPride does not contain phosphates or nitrates.

Jason,

You seem desperate enough that I dare to give you some input.
I am not a fertilizer expert, nor have I ever used that particular product.
Nevertheless, I somehow think that it is not good.

Reasons:

- It will not be sufficient if used on its own, as the description already states “as part of a complete plant care program.”
- It mixes various groupings together, but not all. What if your particular setup (water, plant selection) required less of the iron but more of the potassium?
- It seems to be a mix of some micro and some macro nutrients, but not all common ones (for example nitrates).

Personally, it doesn’t appear to be based on science. I think it appeals mostly to the Pet... crowd that runs through the isles and buys products by brand name (like “their food is good, so the ferts have to be good too&#8221

That is just my opinion,

Ingo

Thanks alot for your reply. No, i'm not really deperate with plant growth or like adding stuff in my tanks. I saw this product while searching for some fish food & was curious if someone use it. I used to use Seachem's products for my plants, but recently i stopped, as i don't want to add anything to my water. I only have Anubias in my tank & they are all attached to Driftwood.

Thanks alot, once again.

Sounds like a liquid fert. If you're currently supplimenting with root (substrate) ferts and the plants still seem to need more than it might be worth a shot. My personal experiences with liquid ferts havent been too favorable. I'd go with root tabs before I bought any liquid fert.
Also, unless you've got over 2wpg and co2 I'd really stear away from most all ferts...just my personal experiences though *shakes fist @cyano*

well..if the tank is heavily planted...it would be nice fromtime to time to treat the plants as well with these nutrients..otherwise... less is best

FloraPride is made by Tetra in Germany. A reputable product. Your standard liquid fert. Very similar to Flourish or something like Tropica Master Grow.

I've used Florapride for 3 years, half doses and not any major problem. It's not a complete fert as I still had to use fert tabs in the substrate. Most liquid ferts designed for plants pulling nutrients direct from the water column anyway so I was ok with that. It's an ok product. When it runs out I'll be trying something new, not sure what yet.

Nitrates are one thing I would never want included in a mix. It's definitely something I want to dose seperately. For a simple mixed fertilizer florapride isn't too bad but I prefer to dose most things seperately as the plants need them or use a small amount of flourish or flourish trace.

sham,

You are absolutely right, I am glad that you pointed out that Nitrates should be dosed separately, I would have forgotten about it. That’s probably the reason they are not included in most mixes

I actually meant to say that this product is not a complete solution and one will need to use additional products for an appropriate fertilization of the plants.

Thanks,

Ingo

I haven't learnt yet why people need to dose nitrates. Are the plants growing so well they suck them all up ?

Yup, you answered your own question.

In my 29G, which is well planted (not stuffed though) and has over 20 fishies, I have 0 Nitrate if I don't add it.

Ingo

EDIT: but it depends on the individual tank and water conditions and should be closely monitored when initiated.

Nitrogen is one of the 3 macronutrients: N (Nitrogen), P (Phosphorus) , K (Potassium)

Note - you might have seen these before if you keep terrestrial plants, they are the numbers you see on fertilizer. eg. 15-30-15 on your bottle of Miracle Gro

If you have a high enough plant mass and all of your plants are growing quickly, Nitrogen bottoms out and is exhausted really easily. NO3 is usually the preferred form of N in the aquarium because it is used readily by plants and is low in toxicity for the fish. In lower light tanks it is possible to provide enough NO3 for the plants with fish and fish food alone, but as you get more light, more plants, key is higher uptake and your fish just aren't going to give you enough N. That's when you start dosing. I personally like to keep NO3 between 15-20 ppm in my planted tanks.
