Hello all. What kinds of snails are good for planted tanks. By this, i mean that they must not eat them, destroy them, put holes in them, etc. I know MTS(Malaysian Trumpet Snails) are good but what are the other kinds? It would also be helpful to put up a link of the snails or post your personal pics for an id. Whould fish such as rainbows or loaches eat them?

Even the 'dreaded' ramshorn and pond snails eat algae and most types do not eat healthy plant matter. Do not overfeed your tank though, or you'll have a real problem on your hands.

Red ramshorns are rather nice. I have a couple from Europe but the smaller more richly colored ruby reds from SA are on my want list.

Some brigs snails also eat algae and you will see holes in weak leaves but also healthy is left alone.

There's more exotic types out there becoming more common.

www.applesnail.net is a great snail place to check out.

edit - clown loaches and yo-yo loaches enjoy snails, you will get the odd one that doesn't.
