Hi,

I was just at my LFS and the guy who pretty much knows me oh so well by now, told me he got awesome new aquatic plant products, some I knew, some I didn't, these shocked me!

Hormones, plant hormones that is, I never heard of anyone using them before, or at least I don't remember, for me the concept was a little scary, like plants on steroids!!

I never seen a post here before about them.

They come as drops, and the dosage is quite eye raising, 1ml for every 100 liters. That sounds like "overdose and you'll get teenage mutant ninja valls!!"

But maybe someone here has knowledge about the topic and wants so enlighten the rest of us. Are they good or bad, do they work, side effects (moody plants? ), effects on fish?

Teenage mutant ninja vals!

I didn't know there was such a thing on the market, but it's effects would depend on what type of hormone it was. I would guess growth hormones, as it sounds logical. They might have a similar effect as dosed CO2, faster growth, bushier, etc. I'm pretty sure they would be dependant on available nutrients as well. I'm interested if someone has experience with them too.

Hmmmm ....you make it sound so amusing and harmless

I'm not sure I'd be willing to do it in a tank with fish....I could see it being used in a PO, but ...yeah I'm not the type that really approves of that for myself ...or my fish....it'd be interesting to see more info on it though....I can see it being useful to help establish a tank, bet ther'ed be withdrawl symptoms though .

They do not do anything, save your money.
They do enhance flowering one time after dosing(in emergent Crypts only), besides that, let the plants do their own production of hormones by giving them the basics, CO2, light and nutrients, they will do the rest grow ___plenty___ fast that way.

Regards,
Tom Barr
