So, we ventured off to the LCPS to get some food for the pooch... and got caught in a torrential downpour. So, while the main intent was to get doggie stuff, we wandered over to the fish department to pass the time so we didn't get completely soaked on the way out.

Found this rather nifty plant and asked the guy behind the counter what it was. "Assorted Potted Plant." Gee, that was SO helpful! Hey, it was cheap for a potted plant - $3 - so I grabbed it.

Meh, I knew y'all could help me out, so I wasn't too worried. I like the nifty markings on the leaves, looks vaguely like a crypt, but I have no idea what it is. Any ideas?

It looks a lot like some of the weeds in my yard. I know I'm so helpful.

Could it be this Brazilian Sword thingy? Just a guess. http://plantgeek.net/plantguide_viewer.php?id=235

I certainly HOPE it's not a weed!

It does have very similar veining to the leaves, but my plant's a darker green and has small dark splotches on it. The leaf shape is right on, though. Perhaps it's some sort of sword, then? Hmmm....

Yeah its probably just an amazon sword. They are very common. Make sure your lighting is strong enough for the plant though.

Hmm... well, I took a trip through Tropica's amazon species and the only ones that had spots and was even vaguely akin to what I have were the ozelots... specifically the [link=green ozelot sword]http://www.tropica.com/productcard_1.asp?id=073G" style="COLOR: #00A0AE[/link].

Not sure that that's right, just doing a bit of research... I don't even know how common those are.

Unless there's another spotted sword with the same leaf shape? I have no ideas.

Yep, Green Ozelot. Very easy to grow, and will grow big. I bought one of these 2 weeks ago and it looks very cool too! Good luck with it, and hope to grows nicely.

Eeks... I hope it's not going to grow too fast. The biggest tank I've got is a 20 long. And the plant is such a cute little thing right now.

Well, hopefully it can wait to grow huge until I get a bigger tank. *grins* Until then, I guess I'll be pruning it. Funfunfun!
