How long shoul i leave on my light(neon) my LFS owner said i should leav it on all day. But is it ok for my fish, He said the minimum i can leave the light on is 8h. I'm just woryed for my fish.

Also can i leave my air bubbles on all day?

The amount of time you leave your tank on really depends on the tank. If there is a lot of algae, decrease the time. But on average 8-12 hours a day is a good range for the time the lights should be on. An automatic timer is the easiest and if the tank is in your room then you can set the turn on time to the time you wake up and use it as an alarm clock!!

i have my lights on for 12 hours, but like said above you can decrease down to eight if you start to have algae prooblems. you should get a timer because it makes thing easier if you are going to be gone for a night. your fish can go without food but if you leave the light on it will be stressful for them.

I agree with the above posts...8-12 hours a day for the lights, timers work wonders

And yes, you can leave your air pump running all of the time. Actually, you shouldn't even turn it off unless you have a check valve on it, or you're taking out the airstone aswell...if ya dont, you can start a siphon and drain your tank water onto yer floor...not fun

I've got my air pump on a timer with one of my rattley internal power filters just because they're near my bed and I can't stand the noise they make

Have fun

depending on the wattage of the neon tubes it shouldn't be a prob as long as you don't exeed 1w/lt or 4w/U.Sgal

the sun ain't a serious threat unless it is full strenght sun light which can lead to 'green' water the only prob your friend may encounter is little exess algea well some times not just a little can get out hand if you dont perform routine maintanents

i agree with the rest.. light should be 8-12 hrs..if theres algae outbreak..reduce the amt of light...right now...u have only java fern in the tank...it doesnt require intense lighting...from low (less than 2wpg) to medium light(2-3 wpg) requirement.

u can buy a timer at any hardware/electric store...prices base on how fancy u want it to be...just get the basic one...usually with 2 ons and 2 offs.

as for the air bubbles...u may leave it all the time...and just hoping u have a one way check valve connected between the airstone and the pump to avoid back flow of water in case of brownout or when the pump is off.

ps..didnt know ur from canada...but one from canadian tire..its just around 6 bux.
