Think I have the same plant: The leaves are kindof narrow and skinny, but there are a lot of them. The flower is kindof weird - two stems that are white, which are above the surface. They have some pollen on them in little balls. Same thing?? Maybe??

So far I've just left the flowering stem alone, maybe someone else has a smarter idea?

I hope you don't think a betta can ( not saying you do ) because i heard a guy a petsmart tell another customer that all she needs is get a normal ivy ( i mean the kind that grows in soil ) to feed him. Which i know is BS.

If I'm not mistaken I think there are certain species of fish who can get their complete diet from plants.

I have never had real plants in my aquarium. I have only had artificial. I admit that I have always been a little afraid to try. However, it seems from these posts that it is not nearly as hard to do as I thought. Beside the beauty of real plants, what are the other benefits that I could look forward to? Are there benefits to having artificial plants versus real plants?

It depends. They always grow tall but if you put them on the outsides they will stay slim and grow inward like the pictures above. I have one in the middle of my tank that grows tall but then spreads outward and gets pretty wide. Mine are pretty narrow at the bottom of the plant though.

That's a 20G bow front tank, they do grow quite a bit, some of the leaves in there are more than 100cm long, i don't prune them because it will only make the plant grow more plants, so i just let them be till they are threw groing leaves.

If you look closelly i have 3 of them in the center just different kinds of leave and greens in the back and floating is an Undulatus, in fornt og that one is an ulvaceus and the one in the from is an Crinum Natans

Hey boil I had three in a 10G but had to give one away. Two of them was kinda pushing it because I pruned them about once a week. If you don't mind pruning then they shouldn't be a problem.

Ok they act like this,

First they'll grow as if there where no tomorrow! they can get really big depending on conditions, but will grow many leaves and even try to cover the surface of the tank, which looks really cool, then they will stop producing leaves and will stay that way for a while. Few weeks later they will start growing shooters to the surface of the tank (it's like a leaf, but the stem it's thicker) that's a flower stem, so it will flower, these look more like vines than flowers, you can then polonaise them yourself with your finger rubbing the vine all around.

After a while the little flowers, are going to turn into seeds and drop all over your tank, many get eaten by fish some will just go bad. but some will find a good space in the substrate and start growing. Please note that if you do regular substrate vacuum these will not happen, you'll suck out all the seeds.

After a period of time the leaves will start dieing, you should be careful to take them out of the tank. Some Aponogeton don't go into a dormant phase so it can be just a leave shedding and it will start all over again, If it looses all it's leaves and seems dead, just leave it where it is, after a few weeks it will re-grow. I don't move mine at all since you loose all the root system, I just leave them alone till they grow back, if you have good water conditions they will be fine, just once in a while check for the bulb to be hard and firm, is you squeeze it and feels soft then you have to take it out and put it in a covered jar on top of damp sand, and put it away in a dark fresh place. 4 weeks later you can replant it.

i bought 1 pack of the apons, i think they are assorted, i have different species growing in my tank now, some with green leaves, brown, curly leaves....ect, but all of them look gorgeous, my otos love them too... the other day, i saw an oto clamped onto one of the flower stems with his fins, not his sucker mouth.... which looked so cute, like he had hands or something

so out of the whole pack, one of them sprouted the next day, then 4 more sprouted the day after, i have 5 total, and their leaves grow to 6-7 inches now, each have about 10 leaves, and this is their 3rd week.

ps. anybody know whats the period of time that they'll die and need to be put in cool water? i would hate to see them all just disappear

Thought I'd post an update on the plants. They're growing beautifully! Haven't moved them yet and I probably should bury the roots, but have not done so yet. So - further ado - 2 pictures
