Anyone have these?

Scroll down to Algae Eating Olive Nerite Snails. It almost sounds too good to be true. My tanks are all snail free, but I regret not having any snails. I would like to have snails that don't damage plant and help with cleanup.

Comments?

I recently got 2 apple snails, and they are great algae eaters, and they don't harm the plants, just be careful ramhorn and mystery snails WILL eat your plants.

apple and mystery snails are 2 different names for the same group of snails. They often get labelled mystery snails cause the store doesn't know what they are. The best way to tell the plant eaters from the nonplant eaters is to ask what size they get. The nonplant eating applesnails only get about 2inches. Ramshorns and cana(baseball sized plant eaters) are also applesnails. I buy the bridgessi applesnails as mystery snails from walmart occasionally. Bridgessi don't eat plants unless starving or the plant is dying.
Nerites generally won't eat plants and unless you get certain freshwater varieties won't reproduce in your tank. They are just somewhat expensive for the tiny snail you get and the fact you'll have to replace them when they die.

I've heard that they do wonders in a brackish aquarium setting, but there's not much I can tell you about them other than that they do indeed eat massive amounts of algae.

Massive amounts of algae? I think I'll get 5 for my 20 .

They won't breed unless in brackish waters, according to the site, but in freshwater, any eggs laid won't hatch. If I want more, I can just set up a 2.5 gallon brackish and feed them spirulina wafers
