While picking up the old kibble for the dog, I decided to look at the selection of aquatic plants. I noticed they sold plants in plastic tubes with gel around the roots labeled "snail free". Anyone have any experience with these plants?

dharris,

I have no personal experience with these plants, but I know that we had a few threads here at FP with a similar question than yours.

If I remember that right then most of them are not true aquatic plants. The ones that are seem to be doing fine once established in the tank.

Always make sure that you can positively identify what plant it is before you consider adding it to your tank.

Ingo

BTW - Welcome to FP

Thank you for the reply. I do know some of the plants sold out of water are not true aquatic plants, but these are. I bought two Microsorium pteropus "Java Fern" packaged with this method.
The plants appear to be in excellent shape so far. Thank you for the welcome, I look forward to chatting with you all.

You are welcome, dharris.

Wanna tell us a little more about the tank where you added the Java Fern?

Just curious,

Ingo

Sure! Couple things though have changed in the last day. I have two tanks, one not planted at the moment and one ready for planting. The one that is ready for planting is being torn down. I don't trust the Nano Cube I just bought due to stories of cracking. I'm buying a Oceanic cube tomorrow. It will have a three in depth of Eco-Complete two 150 watt heaters with compact fluorescent (2.5 watts per gal, or so). When money permits, this tank will have CO2 (very soon).

The Fern is not planted yet. Being kept under fluorescent for the time being.
