I am planting my 125 gal/6ft long tank. Just half to start. So far stocked with 7 young Pearl Gouramies, 12 Cories (Julii and Elegans), 12 Ottos, 3 Ghost Cats, and in a week adding 3 female bettas, and eventually a male.
Is there anything, that will eat snails, not hurt my plants (or any of these very peaceful fish)? Had thought about some Clown loaches..but then read about the damage they can do to plants (they're so cute too .
Is this an impossible task?
Can I get the clowns if I just feed veggies regularly (which would be ok with the Ottos as well..and probably the Pearls.

Female bettas eat snails

If you have a lot of current in the tank and good water quality you could get a few hillstream loaches. Hillstreams eat many kinds of algae...many that ottos won't eat

Do some research on hillstreams before you get any...they are really a specialized fish and are really picky...

I've had Hillstreams before they are neat. May get some more when LFS has a good number to choose from..they just have one tiny lil lonely guy now.

Hillstreams are territorial...they prefer to be alone...I'm sure he's not lonely...

Definintly i would put 5 or as many you can afford or can fit in your tank and the fish i am thinking of is dwarf loaches. Queens, chainlink, dwarfs, any of them. Awsome fish. And i would put more glass cats maybe 2-3 more. I would also put in more female bettas. ( awsome fish i have 2 fm and 1m in my 55) I would put about 6-7 fms in there but if it is sparcely planted i would only put 4-5. And one male. He will be so lucky ]:%). Good luck.

I forgot about Hillstreams being territorial..I used to have them in this six foot tank..so from that memory I didn't recall any of that behaviour (obviously)..
I plan on adding 3 more Glass cats when LFS gets them in. One side of the tank will be well planted..then when I can get more light strips, I MAY plant the other side. FOr now the unplanted side just has rock formations..and is kept dark..which is kinda cool.
I plant on more female bettas, too.

I'm new to all this and don't know much, but... Brought home 6 young chinese algae eaters yesterday for my 70gal. The tank is nearing 4th week of cycling and only has 20 tetras and 5 platies for the cycling process. Was concerned about adding baby cae's but they don't seem to be intimidated when the headlight tetras pestered them, and all they want to do is eat. I mainly wanted something that would clean algae off of the very narrow 30" long leaves of the onion plants and this morning they were 99% clean! What efficient little eaters. Btw, I'm having 125gal tank envy...

Chinese algae eaters really aren't a good choice. They grow to be 10 inches long and will abandon their algae eating abilities in favor of other fishs' slime coats.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

Yeah, CAE's get big and stop eating algae when they get to a decent size...

Get some Ottos instead...they're smaller, and they eat more algae more efficently

I'm sorry I totally screwed up my posts. I was looking for snail eaters..
I have ottos, they are doing a great job.
I wouldn't get CAEs for this peaceful tank. I know how they can get.

(Wanna put my tender-
heart in a blender-
watch it spend round to a beautiful oblivion-
Roundevous then I'm through with you...)
