![]() | Potted Plants |

I've pretty much always used silk plants, but I've just purchased a couple of potted plants for my 35 gallon...an amazon and a crypt. They're in little mesh like plastic pots stuffed with what looks like oasis foam and have pretty well developed roots sticking through. How do I plant these? Just keep them as they are in their little oasis pots? Take out the foam? |

I'd remove them both, personally. Do your best to remove all of the foam from around the roots, though. Then give them a rinse, and trim off the tips of the roots. You may want to look around your LFS to see if you can find any "root tabs". Insert one right underneath where you plant the sword. Swords are heavy root feeders (so are crypts, but they're not as demanding) and they will need the extra nutrients that a root tab will provide. (I assume you don't have any special type of substrate, such as Flourite or eco-complete.... ) Good luck! |
