Hello - I got a 4x65 watt PC fixture for my 90 planted today. It has 2 fans and legs that keep it about 2-3 inches off my glass, but the top of the fixture is still about 130 degrees. Is this normal?

coffeeman,

I have never measured the temp on any of my fixtures, but the smaller one over the 29G (65W) gets pretty hot (no fans).

The large one on the 125G (4x96W) strangely does not seem to get that hot (2 fans), or I haven't touched a bad spot yet.

What brand is your unit? I have the Coralife line. Also, just in case, what is the K value of the lights?

Ingo

Also: are you in somewhere where it is hot right now? Like in Australia? What is your room temp?

The light is made by Catalina Aquarium. They're really cheap so probably not the best quality, but for the price ($150 shipped including bulbs) I couldn't not get it. The bulbs are 6500k (branded by catalina but made in Taiwan).

I live near Seattle, so it's not hot here. Inside the house is between 70 and 80.
