Renoharps.

I actually thought this was a good price for a complete system (shows how much I know). What should a tank cost about? ($20-$30).

Right now I'm getting swings in ph between nite and day running diy 24/7. Do you know what is an acceptable range (depends on sensitivity of fish), but about?

Thanks for all you input.

Tetra,

It is reasonably priced for what you get, but maybe you don't need all that is what we're saying. The controller costs almost as much as a regulator. I like the reactor they have included (I have the smaller Vortex 40 and it works great).

I checked into tank and gas prices, and where I live, a 5lb tank costs around $50 from a welding supply place and it costs around $8 to fill it. Supposedly, this should last from 6 months to a year.

I'm not an expert on pH swings. I normally do not see a change of more than .2 overnight on my DIY system though.

LittleFish,

Thanks for the link. Are you still on the fence deciding on what to do. I'm looking for a system for my 46 although I see myself going to a 72 within a few months. I'd like to purchase something this week, but don't want to overkill for my 46 or eventual 72

Bensaf,

I really don't have the spare money, but like you said it's a one time purchase. What would be the cheaper way to go, picking up the parts here and there? Also is a 5 lb tank sufficient and where did you purchase?

As always thanks, Hopefully I can eventually help you with something. By the way, How are you with backyard gardening, because I have a few questions

Yes, I think your right. So I guess they're comparable function wise.

Isn't the solenoid valve an on/off switch?

Littlefish:

the Milwaukee is only $79 and the JBJ is $86 at the Aquatic-Store.com.

I can't tell if the milwaukee has an on/off switch.

Tetra,

Actually, that site has both the JBJ and Milwaukee regulator and the "Top Gun" from aquariumplant.com is a Milwaukee. The Milwaukee is the one I would go for. It doesn't necessarily have to be the "Top Gun" one though. Both sites have the Milwaukee regulator without all the "Top Gun" modifications, but I've ordered from aquariumplant.com before with complete satisfaction. The other "Complete Ultimate System" at aquariumplant.com has the "Top Gun" regulator instead of the JBJ. Looks like the picture may be wrong though.

Tetratech, I fifnished the post on me external reactor. [link=This]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Planted%20Aquaria/52902_4.html?04035913" style="COLOR: #FFD700[/link] is the link to my planted tank journal where I posted it.

Maybe I'll look into that inline heater...it would be nice to have everything out of the tank .

Renoharps,

I was getting ready to order the regulator but then I got some negative feedback from people about JBJ and copper regulators>

Ingo/Tetra,

Yeah, they changed the site since I last went to it. Never ordered anything from them, so I don't know what they're reputation is. I just used their site for information.

Thanks for the input. I'll have to keep checking.

Matty:
That would be great on the "ingredients" for your external reactor. Also not sure if your interested, but Hydor makes an external heater.

It goes inline between your canister filter return.
