Usually chain swords stay shorter, need more light, and need to be trimmed back/thinned out more often than dwarf sag IME. Like all echinodorus sp. chain swords like a nutricious substrate and take up a lot of iron.

Besides what Matty said already:

I have both and I can't even distinguish them from more than 10 inches away. The one thing I don't like about Dwarf Sags is that they produce runners below the substrate (quite deep down there) and thinning them out is a little messy as you disturb the substrate when pulling out a few plantlings connecte by the buried chain link. Pygmys are better as their runners are above the substrate.
